Project Objectives

• Clarify the University's expectations of learning and teaching activities by describing them in a simple framework of knowledge, skills and behaviours.
• Develop a values-based competency framework covering all other aspects of academic roles.
• Develop the framework so that staff can use it as a tool to reflect on their practice, and capture their personal and professional development requirements.
• Establish a continuous improvement process to replace the existing appraisal process.
• Facilitate staff development planning linked to teaching and learning improvements and the student experience.

The wider context for the framework sits within the University‘s HR Strategy. One of the core objectives for this strategy is to develop a competency framework for use in performance reviews using a developmental approach, workforce planning, and reward and benefits design. The project is sponsored by the Head of the University‘s Educational Initiative Centre and has been commissioned by the HRD Department.

We are also members of the University‘s Leadership & Management Development Steering Group and involved in the design and delivery of its Corporate Services Management Programme.
