Salary Comparisons

This exercise began with one of our benchmarking clubs but we expect to run it with more than 40 smaller housing associations this year (2010).

We have set up a secure database to capture and compare details of each job in member organisations; defining the role and the responsibilities as well as the rewards offered.

There is a great deal of diversity within the sector, and roles in small organisations are often hard to pin down. We have worked closely with chief executives from smaller housing associations to design a system which captures all the relevant information.

We made the process as simple as possible to complete while capturing enough information about each post to be able to make a meaningful comparison.

For smaller organisations job-title alone is not necessarily a good indication of a person’s role, so each post is rated using a simple matrix of areas/levels of responsibility. Each organisation also inputs a summary of their general terms and conditions.

Feedback so far from the pilot group has been very positive, indicating that the level of infomation is good and that adding new job details via the web-site is straightforard and simple

Subscribers to the service receive an individually tailored report, with a section for each of the posts within their organisation. The report provides a detailed comparative picture for every post, showing how other, similar roles in other organisations are rewarded.
