Making good use of technology

We use ICT applications in a creative way to improve the value and quality of our work. Our team has a vast experience of developing software applications and we have been long been champions of the use of appropriate technology.

"I found the process simple and well managed. Colleagues at Skills & Projects are helpful and very competent which made for conducive working. Skills & Projects were clear about timetables and delivery and were well organised."

Mike Wilkins
(CE Ducane Housing Association)

"The software was easy to use and we now have a really clear picture of our training and development needs across the whole organisation."

Databases and Web development

We use technology in many of our projects where we find that we can do something cheaper and better by developing a simple web application rather than using manual processes. What surprises many of our clients is how cost effective this can be.

We first developed our own suite of web based survey and analysis tools in 2005 because we had good database and software skills in-house and could not find anything else that would do the job as well.

We still develop our own applications for larger, more complex projects, such as our resident satisfaction reporting and our benchmarking application, but these days the picture is changing, and there are a vast array of excellent, free resources available for consulting and engaging with stakeholders.

Our development follows a rigorous project management and quality assurance model which ensures that applications perform properly and are thoroughly tested before they go ‘live‘.

We are particularly concerned that our applications should conform to accesibility standards which is why you see the W3C logo at the bottom of every page.

Security and Data Protection

Our servers are hosted in one of the largest and most secure data-centres in the UK, fully backed-up every twenty-four hours and fully compliant with the Data Protection Act.

Physical access to the data centre is strictly limited to security-cleared personnel, controlled by extensive CCTV monitoring and state-of-the-art access control systems.

Survey data is held in a SQL-Server database and so is protected by SQL-Server Authentication as well as excellent host and network security.

Full details of our hosting arrangements can be made available if required. Skills & Projects Ltd is registered as a data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998.
